Talking Heads

Huge thanks to Peter Benner & David Cherry who held a Village History question and answer evening in the Seaforth Hall last Friday.

Between them they have 108 years of residence in the village and much knowledge! Peter and Liz moved here in 1967 and David in 1975. The format was topics relating to slides from the WRS Archives and members of the audience asking questions. Peter spoke about his house, the demolition of 1 to 5 the Street, the demise of the original builder of his house and other war-time events.

David told us about his house which was opposite the Home Farm barns and how they were demolished and the village pond and the Lydhurst gatehouses were constructed. Other speakers were: Ken Williams who was born at Hazeldean Farm in Warninglid and he spoke about his family home and the construction of the A23 and the flyover; Pam Cork who, with Terry, moved to Warninglid in 1971, and worked at the Primary School for 20 years and spoke about the school; Rosy Brenan who moved here in 1985 and spoke about living in Colwood House and its history.

Thank you to all the speakers and thanks especially to Louise Brown whose original idea it was. It was a fascinating evening and over 40 people attended and thoroughly enjoyed the event.
